Some sad news from us, back in July of this year we lost our dear friend and Presenter Beryl Griffiths.
Beryl was a character and a fantastic presenter, either broadcasting on her own or on “Ladies at Lunch” and even went on to win Gold at the HBA Awards 2016 for “Ladies at Lunch” with Mandy Shepherd.
To say we were devastated to learn of Beryl’s untimely death is an understatement. We knew she often suffered bouts of ill health, but she always bounced back.
Anyway, We wanted to pass on our condolences to her family and we thought it might be of some comfort to you if we shared some memories of her with you at this sad time.
Beryl, in a nutshell, was one of Life’s characters. All the team at AS remember her with affection. She was lovely, and Steve Dundas , in particular spent a fair bit of time with her over the years as he would often take her to and from the station.
He says, with great affection, how she would always regale him with tales of her exploits when she lived abroad, both good and bad . She had a unique way of telling those tales, saying she brought them to life , so much so that he felt he had been there with her too !
She loved her dog , Bobby and was immensely proud of her grandchildren. She was always up for a laugh, with a twinkle in her eye . And what a voice ! The karaoke nights the team sometimes enjoyed at Tranmere Rovers were a ball with her.
Steve also remembers going to see Natalie Imbruglia with her at the O2 Academy in Liverpool, and how at the end of the concert , she stood outside, oblivious to the freezing cold , interviewing the audience as they left. She just loved people!
He also went to the Cavern with her to see Joe Symes, and as usual, had an absolute ball with her.
Her talent as a radio presenter was of course ultimately rewarded when she and Mandy Shepherd won the HBA Gold Award for Joint Presenters in … for their hilarious show, Ladies at Lunch . Their banter and wicked sense of humour is not easily replicated.. they were a real hoot!
She had a heart of gold , and every time we hear Shine by Take That , we will think of her, as that was her opening song!
So rest assured, she will be shining like the star she was in the heavens above . Rest in peace, dear Beryl .
